Environment Canada issues storm watches, warnings in southern Manitoba – Winnipeg

WINNIPEG — Environment Canada has issued severe thunderstorm warnings and watches Wednesday morning for Winnipeg and several other communities in southern Manitoba.

Dark clouds and bolts of lightning were already filling the skies around Winnipeg when the weather watch was issued Wednesday morning.

Environment Canada says unstable weather can be expected throughout the day.

There were severe thunderstorm warnings and watches in multiple areas north and west of Winnipeg.

“Thunderstorms are expected at various times throughout the day through much of Southern Manitoba as a trough of low pressure crosses the region,” the agency said. “Some of these thunderstorms may be severe with large hail and damaging winds being the primary threats. This watch will likely continue into this evening.”
